Cyberabad cops seize Rs 23 lakh from ‘Congress’ supporters
Hyderabad: The Cyberabad police seized Rs 23 lakh that was being transported to Malkajgiri from Nizampet allegedly to be distributed to voters by Congress supporters.
The police arrested one person and is looking for two others, said to be Congress activists.
Kukatpally ACP B. Surender Rao said that acting on a tip-off, the KPHB police intercepted a car (AP28 DL 0502) with the help of the flying squad in Nizampet. On seeing the police, two persons in the rear seat escaped but the driver, M. Srinivas Goud, 40, was caught along with Rs 23 lakh.
Srinivas Goud of Nallakunta was taken into custody for questioning. Police identified the two persons who escaped as B. Krishna Reddy of Vikarabad and Raghavendar Reddy of Nizampet, who were taking the cash from an apartment at Nizampet to Malkajgiri.
“Srinivas was working as a driver with one Raghavendar, a employee at Kondapur. On his directions, Srinivas took the car from T. Revanth Reddy and picked up Krishna Reddy. They went to Nizampet and picked up Raghavendar Reddy from an apartment with Rs 23 lakh. The cash was being transported to Malkajgiri,” the ACP said.
He said, “Srinivas confessed that the cash was being transported to Malkajgiri to distribute to voters to casting their vote for the Congress contestant. We are finding out if the money belonged to the contestant or the absconding persons.”
A case has been registered under IPC Section 171B.
