Congmen spell trouble for Deve Gowda in Madhugiri

We won’t work for JD(S) supremo’s victory at any cost, they tell former MLA Rajanna.

Bengaluru: Spelling trouble for Janata Dal (Secular) supremo H.D. Deve Gowda, former Madhugiri Congress MLA K.N. Rajanna on Monday did not succeed in persuading party workers of the assembly constituency to back him in Tumakuru for the Lok Sabha poll.

Mr Rajanna, who held a meeting with the Congress workers of Madhugiri on Monday, informed them that the high command expected them to campaign for Mr Gowda and participate in a joint rally in the assembly segment on Wednesday, but the Congress workers not only refused to do as told, but also declared they were not ready to work for the JD(S) supremo’s victory at any cost. “You attend the joint rally, but don't force us to participate,” they told him.

While Mr Rajanna himself has come round to the idea of campaigning for Mr Deve Gowda, he is still not convinced of his reasons for leaving Hassan and opting for Tumakuru this Lok Sabha poll.

“Mr Deve Gowda had the choice of contesting from either Mandya or Mysuru too, but he insisted on contesting from Tumakuru , ending the political career of (sitting MP) Mr Muddahanumegowda.

Despite this, Mr Muddahanumegowda will participate in the joint rally on April 10 in support of Mr Deve Gowda,” he added.

Slamming Deputy Chief Minister, Dr G Parameshwar, who represents Koratagere in the assembly, Mr Rajanna said he had promised to do many things after becoming minister, but had done nothing over the last 11 months.

“Moving in zero traffic does not fetch votes. It is (former Chief Minister ) Mr Siddaramaiah, state BJP president, B S Yeddyurappa and Mr Deve Gowda ,who have power to win votes and not others,” he added.
