Brinda Karat says Congress is ‘confused party of India’
Thiruvananthapuram: CPM politburo member Brinda Karat on Mond-ay accused the Congress of being “confused par-ty of India” which talks about secularism but adopts polices that are detrimental to the secular fabric of the nation.
At the meet the press programme here, Karat said the Congress spoke about fighting the BJP. However, it decides to field its top leader in Kerala where the Left parties are in the forefront fighting the BJP-RSS. Similarly in Uttar Pradesh where the BSP-SP-RLD combine was a major force against the BJP, the Congress has decided to field candidates in all constituencies. She said the secular credentials of Congr-ess’ ally Muslim League was suspect as the latter was having understanding with most fundamentalist forces.
Karat said that a strong presence of Left was needed in parliament to defend constitutional values which are being trampled upon by the NDA government. “We are committed to pro people policies and we are against economic policy of NDA which are aimed at increasing the inequality among rich and poor,” she said.
She slammed the BJP manifesto saying it sho-uld have been accountable to the unfulfilled promises made in 2014. The unemployment situation has worsened. After demonetization 1.1 crore jobs were lost, she said. Karat said terror incidents registered an increase by 176 per cent in the past five years exposing the failure of the Modi government.
