UDF calls for all-party meet on Keezhattoor

The UDF offered all support to the protest of Vayalkilikal and flayed the government for its reluctance to talk with the agitators.

Kannur: The UDF delegation which visited the protest simmering in Keezhattoor on Sunday urged the state government to convene an all party meet to deliberate the issue. The UDF offered all support to the protest of Vayalkilikal and flayed the government for its reluctance to talk with the agitators. “It is high handedness on the part of the state for not being willing for a discussion with the Vayalkilikal. The UDF extends all support to the farmers’ strike,” said opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala.

Though he did not mention the paddy fields and wetlands being sacrificed for highway development, the focus was on LDF government’s adamant stand. “Vayalkilikal are not vultures but human beings. The government should try all options before proceeding with the development agenda. Concerns of all of the stakeholders should be addressed,” Chennithala said. The leaders held talks with Vayalkilikal leader Suresh Keezhattoor and others.

There is confusion prevailing among the leaders in supporting the cause of Keezhattoor. While leaders like V.M Sudheeran is completely backing Vayalkilikal for ecological concerns, K. Muraleedharan MLA is for the Thaliparamba bypass project through the wetlands but after convincing the agitating people. But fearing the public backlash, the UDF is currently flaying the government for its adamant stand. IUML leader M.K Muneer MLS, DCC President Satheesan Pacheni and others were part of the delegation.
