Toilet complex re-opened at KSRTC depot
Kochi: In the wake of protests by commuters and staff, the KSRTC authorities have finally repaired and opened the toilet complex at Ernakulam depot after a week. Earlier, the authorities failed to take steps on a war-footing after the district suchitwa mission issued a closure notice citing that the septic waste started following into the stand premise and garage. Mayor Soumini Jain herself personally visited the depot and offered corporation's help in cleaning and reopening the toilet complex.
"We'd carried out the cleaning and reopened the toilet complex for public on Saturday. A new toilet block is also being built for staff. Earlier, the delay was caused since we tried to carry out the work by engaging a contractor by floating tender," said S. Mehboob, district transport officer, Ernakulam. Meanwhile, the staff charged that the issue was far from over. "The problem is with the small septic tanks which overflow if the toilet is continuously used. The authorities should first rectify this," said a conductor on condition of anonymity.
