Hyderabad: The popular Chilkur Balaji Temple on the outskirts of the city is setting an example for other temples when it comes to promotion of Sanskrit language.

It is conducting a Sanskrit learning class for schoolgoing chidren free of cost within its premises. Children from kindergarten to high school sections are being made to recite Bhagavad Gita slokas and the parents are also encouraging this.

Besides Chilkur, residents from Deval Venkatapur, Yenkepalli and Appojigudem are sending their children everyday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for the classes.
Acharya Tirumalesh and his wife from Samskrita Bharati are conducting these classes for children belonging mainly to deprived sections of the society. These students are studying in government schools located in their villages.

Thirumalesh said they are making children recite and understand Gita slokas. “To their surprise, children are able to grasp and recite them without much difficulty,” he said.

The confidence in reciting Sanskrit slokas fluently is helping in their academics too, Thirumalesh said.
