Hyderabad: Alongside inspections on PG colleges, JNTU-Hyderabad has inspected nearly 220 out of the 300-odd colleges that sought affiliation for 2017-18. JNTU teams comprising two to three officials have been visiting nearly 10 engineering colleges and five pharmacy and MBA colleges each day for the last two weeks.They are checking whether colleges are equipped with laboratory equipment in departments like mechanical, electrical and civil engineering.
Records of teaching faculty are being checked. The staff is also checking whether colleges are including the Aadhaar card and PAN details of each lecturer and whether the biometric system is in place to record attendance.
JNTU Vice-Chancellor Prof. A. Venugopal Reddy said officials would complete this exercise in a few days.
Once the inspections are complete, JNTU will summarise the data and point out the deficiencies on the portals of the colleges. The colleges will get time to take corrective measures. Another round of inspections will be held in some colleges to verify if the measures have been put in place.
According to sources, 80 per cent of colleges were found to be complying with norms. There are no shortcomings in the running of BTech and BPharm in a majority of colleges. “Due to the government’s measures, engineering colleges are taking steps to comply with norms, those that failed to make the adjustments shut down”, an official said.
