Man throws shoe at Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal at odd-even event, detained

The shoe attacker reportedly belongs to an outfit formed by Aam Aadmi Party rebels.

New Delhi: A shoe was thrown at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday afternoon during a programme on the odd-even car rationing scheme which will be rolled out in the national capital from April 15. The man threw the shoe and a CD at Kejriwal, which was caught by an Aam Aadmi Party mid-air, preventing it from hitting the Chief Minister.

According to reports, the man has been identified as Ved Prakash who belongs to an outfit formed by AAP rebels called the Aam Admi Sena. Chaos prevailed at the venue as another man at slapped the miscreant, who was soon detained by security personnel and taken to IP Estate Police Station for further questioning.

Before being taken away, he shouted about alleged irregularities in distribution of CNG stickers and claimed that no action has been taken though a complaint was filed by him with the Chief Minister.

The scene was very similar to the January 2016 incident, where a woman threw ink at the Chief Minister while he was delivering a speech at a public meeting on the odd-even scheme in Chhatrasal Stadium.

The woman who had been identified as Bhavna Arora, was also was a worker with Aam Aadmi Sena. A resident of Rama Vihar in outer Delhi's Rohini sub-city, she had claimed she had "proof in the form of a CD" on the CNG scam.

Both BJP and Congress condemned the shoe throwing incident, but the latter criticised Kejriwal for his style of functioning.

"We condemn the shoe throwing, but it's due the authoritarian style of functioning of Mr.Kejriwal," said Congress leader PC Chacko.
