Traffic jam! BMTC crew to face action

We get daily complaints about BMTC buses causing traffic congestion, says A senior traffic police officer.

Bengaluru: In Bengaluru it is a common sight - BMTC drivers stop buses away from designated stops and this results in traffic congestion. The city traffic police are now planning a drive against such stoppages and penalise erring drivers.

BMTC drivers often stop buses either ahead or beyond the designated bus stops and quite often they stop right in the middle of the road for the passengers to board or alight. This not only slows down traffic, but puts the lives of passengers in danger. A senior traffic police officer said, “We get daily complaints about BMTC buses causing traffic congestion, as the drivers stop according to their whims and fancies and this cannot be taken lightly. We have also been told that the passengers register complaint against the drivers with the BMTC, but the drivers continue to flout the rules. Our priority is to ensure that there are no traffic snarls due to such petty reasons.”

“Soon, we will carry out a drive against erring bus drivers and ensure that they are penalized. We will also give them an on the spot orientation and how they are causing problems to other motorists. This is the only way to instill them with traffic rules and regulations,” added the officer. According to BMTC sources the highest number of complaints they receive are related to buses not stopping at designated stops.
