Infant rescued from local train in Tambaram

The baby was kept under observation at the Institute Of Child Health and Hospital for Children, Egmore.

Chennai: A three-month-old baby boy was rescued from the first class compartment of a suburban electric train where he had been abandoned, in Tambaram on Friday morning. The baby was kept under observation at the Institute Of Child Health and Hospital for Children, Egmore.

According to sources, passengers at the Tambaram station heard the sound of a baby crying in the first class compartment of an EMU train that pulled into platform No. 3 at 11.30 am on Friday. Upon searching, the baby was found abandoned in a shopping bag.

The passengers alerted the Tambaram railway police who in turn contacted Childline volunteers. When no one came to claim the baby despite many announcements, the volunteers took the baby to the Institute Of Child Health and Hospital for Children in Egmore.

Doctors said the boy baby was three months old and placed under medical observation. "The baby has been placed under the baby scheme of the government. The parents of the child are yet to be identified," said a police officer

The Tambaram railway police registered a case and are combing through the CCTV footages at the railway station. Further investigations are on.
