Parent dropping kids to school felled by van in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: A 50-year-old man was killed in a road accident in Dundigal on Thursday. His two children escaped with injuries. Veeranki Ramesh was taking his children Sanjana (14) and Devdas (13) to school, by bike, when he was hit by a speeding pickup van travelling in the opposite direction.
According to the police, Ramesh, a resident of Bahadurpalli, worked as a welder. On Thursday, he left home, as usual, to drop his children at their school in Jeedimetla.
When they reached the Indian Oil Petrol Pump in Bahudurpalli, they were hit, from the front, by a speeding pickup van. All three persons on the bike were flung into the air and landed at a distance. The driver of the van left his vehicle at the scene of the accident and fled.
Ramesh landed on his head-first and died on the spot, while both his children suffered fractures.
They were immediately rushed to a private hospital in the vicinity. Their condition is said to be critical.
Based on a complaint filed by the members of the victims’ family, the Dundigal police registered a case for causing injuries and causing death due to negligence. Ramesh’s body was handed over to his family after an autopsy. The police have started a probe and launched a hunt for the driver of the van.
