Hyderabad: Hyderabad link to the Khorasan module of ISIS has emerged. The tip-off came from the counter intelligence cell of the Telangana police, and led to the crackdown in Lucknow and Madhya Pradesh.

In an 11-hour-long encounter, the Uttar Pradesh Anti Terrorism Squad killed one Saifullah, a resident of Kanpur. An Intelligence Bureau official said that the Khorasan module of ISIS is part of the ISIS Islamic Caliphate in Iran, Afghanistan and India.

“Their presence is growing in Afghanistan. In India, too, the module is growing. In Hyderabad, several of them were arrested and a few were radicalised. There are several others under close watch of both State and Central agencies.”

Sources in the State police said that the counter insurgency cell has been watching the movements of terror suspects owing allegiance to ISIS and alerted both the Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh police.

An official said that so far no one has been picked up from Hyderabad in connection with the Lucknow incident nor have any names cropped up. “There is no specific terror alert for Hyderabad. But all cities are always on the radar of the terror networks including Hyderabad.”
