DRDO missile-maker wants funds for interceptor
Hyderabad: The Defence Research and Development Organisation has started work on its next interceptor missile. The system will enter the trial stages within the next two years and officials said it would be operational by 2022. A DRDO scientist said the interceptor would be a multi-role missile and maintain it would have no parallel.
The scientist added that much can be achieved if the ministry of defence pumped in more funds into special projects such as this, and the DRDO could match US missiles. “Resources is where we lack. The manufacturing, testing and eventual launch of a missile takes around three to five years. We need more funding for the projects. We have a lot of faith in the interceptor project as out of the three launches so far, two have been successful,” said senior scientist Shashikala Sinha, project director, air defence.
