Bengaluru: Jayamahal Road to be widened, trees to be safeguarded
Bengaluru: BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad has said there is no question of dropping the Jayamahal road widening project, but clarified that measures will be taken to save the trees.
Prasad told Deccan Chronicle, "We have not dropped the project. We are in discussion with experts on how to take the project forward by saving as many trees as possible."
He went on to explain that experts from Institute of Wood Science and Technology along with BBMP officials will be inspecting the Jayamahal stretch, where 112 trees are marked to be chopped off to find out the trees which can be relocated.
Once they give us a report on how many trees can be relocated we will follow all due procedures as mentioned in the Tree Act and go ahead the road widening, Prasad explained.
He further mentioned that it was the residents of Jayamahal who wanted the road to be widened owing to traffic congestion.
