Chennai: M. Arockia Mary is the only grade I woman cop who patrols the Marina beach from 10 pm to 6 pm. She had been posted here for the last two and a half years.
She hails from Tirunelveli, very efficient and straight forward. According to nearby residents, she looks into the issues like prostitution and theft.
It normally takes 20 minutes to walk the entire beach stretch but she takes only 10 minutes. “If you give her the information of any wrongdoings or if she herself sees it she will make sure she will catch hold of the miscreant,” said a resident.
“I love this job. Often I find men harassing women, I just can’t tolerate it. I have also managed to stop a murder. From a young age I have been very active and my passion was to join police. I joined in February 14, 2005,” said Arockia.
