Two more TD MLAs to join TRS

The party had contested 93 seats and bagged only one.

Hyderabad: Yet another two TS TD MLAs are set to switch their loyalties to the ruling TRS, most probably on March 11.

Greater Hyderabad City TD president and Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath and Serilingampally MLA Arikepudi Gandhi have decided to join the TRS in presence of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

“We have finalised our decision to join TRS, as we think the TD has become nonexistent in the city. This was proved by the overwhelming vote to the TRS in the recent GHMC polls,” Mr Gopinath told this newspaper on Tuesday. The TD could not win a single seat in Jubilee Hills and Serilingampally Assembly segments.

The party had contested 93 seats and bagged only one. Last month, five TS TD MLAs, including TDLP leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao, left the party for the TRS, thus reducing the party’s strength in the TS Assembly to five, which will now come down to three.

During Monday’s brief meeting at the party headquarters chaired by TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu, the two city MLAs were conspicuous by their absence, a solid indicator of their drifting away from the party.

Meanwhile, sources said that TD MLA from Sattupally Sandra Venkata Veeraiah, who is one of the accused in the ‘cash-for-vote’ scam, has been sending feelers to the TRS. However, this has been denied by the TD leader.

Incidentally, TD’s LB Nagar MLA R. Krishnaiah has been keeping a distance from the party ever since he was denied the TDLP leader’s post.
He has been appealing to the media not to call him ‘TD MLA’, and instead address him as a ‘BC Organisation’ leader.

These developments have effectively left the TD, which once ruled the state, being represented only by Revanth Reddy in the TS Assembly.

“This is all part of political game. I am not perturbed by these developments, we will build the party with available leaders and cadre,” Mr Revanth Reddy told this newspaper.
