Six held in petrol bomb attack case
Madurai: The city police arrested six persons including Pasumpon Pandian, former joint secretary of Anna Thozhitch Sanga Peravai, for their alleged involvement in the case related to hurling of petrol bombs at two places including AIADMK Minister Sellur K Raju’s office here recently.
The main culprit Pasumpon Pandian had conspired and carried out the operation with the help of seven others with an intention to create fear and sully the image of state cooperative minister Raju due to political rivalry, said Shaliesh Kumar Yadav, the Madurai city police commissioner to reporters here on Tuesday.
The gang had hurled the low intensive bombs at AIADMK office at Panagal road, Madurai West MLA Raju’s office at Sammattipuram in the late hours of January 9. On the next day, though they tried to cause disruption to the AIADMK public meeting scheduled at Madura college ground by keeping bombs at the venue, the police thwarted their plans and seized the bombs.
To carry out the operation, Pasumpon Pandian took support of seven accused including two accused Kannan and Madasamy from Thoothukudi. “They prepared the bombs at Agrini apartments which is located close to Madurai college ground,” said the commissioner.
A person close to Pasumpon Pandian owns the apartment they used for preparing the bomb. As the main accused often used the place for refreshment with his friends, the residents did not notice anything suspicious in their movements, said the police officer involved in the investigation. After the gang prepared the bombs, four accused- Manikumar, Kannan, Andal, and Madasamy- exploded two bombs at the party office and the MLA office.
