RSS men attack Kottarakkara police station

Six cops including CI and SI injured.

KOLLAM: A group of RSS activists attacked the Kottarakkara police station and injured six policemen, including the CI and SI, after a police team arrested an RSS leader riding a motorcycle along with two others at Kottathala on Monday night.

The police took the RSS activist in custody after which a gang attacked the station and destroyed the police vehicles. The arrested was identified as Bineesh, 24, RSS Kottarakkara taluk Karyavah. No arrests were made in connection with the police station attack.

According to Kottarakkara DySP A. Ashokan, the incident took place near Puthoor after midnight. “A night patrol team interrogated three men who were going by a motorcycle and tried to take them in custody.

The men tried to attack the police while two of them fled the scene. The police detained Bineesh and took him to the station. Meanwhile, a large gang of RSS men gathered in front of the station trying to forcefully release the arrested.
More police force was brought to the scene after which the gang started pelting stones at the station,” Mr. Ashokan told DC.

Puthoor SI Sudheesh and Kottarakkara CI B.S. Sajimon were among the injured who sought treatment at the Kottarakkara taluk hospital. Several police vehicles and the window panes of the station were destroyed in the attack.

The police team led by Kottarakkara SI Sivaprakash took Bineesh in custody by around 12.30 a.m. Police forces from Puthoor and Kundara were called in to the aid of Kottarakkara police. The gang fled the scene after more police force arrived.

The attackers took refuge in a nearby temple and the RSS office and the Kottarakkara CI who chased them was also allegedly attacked near the RSS office. However, the police did not enter the RSS office to arrest the culprits.
