Luckiest' man fears for life
KOZHIKODE: Mofizul Rahaan Sheikh, 22, from West Bengal is a frightened man because he has won a huge fortune--the Rs 1-crore prize of Karunya lottery. He fears that his life is under threat. Rahaan from Lakshmipur had come to Kozhikode in search of work only on Saturday last. The same day he bought the lottery ticket from an agent and on Sunday came to know from a newspaper that he had won the first prize.
However, he was so scared of keeping the ticket (KT 215092) with him that he immediately rushed to the Chevayur police station seeking protection.
Later, Chevayur principal SI U.K. Shajahan along with other officials took Rahaan to the nearby SBI branch. “Is this bank original?” he asked the police when they reached the bank branch.
In spite of police security, he repeatedly wanted to know about the reliability and the authenticity of the nationalised bank. He attributed the fortune to his 10-month-old baby girl and said, “I have handed over the ticket to the SBI manager with the direction of the police officer who accompanied me. I fear threat to my life after receiving such a huge amount and I wish to meet my family soon after the processes are over,” he added.
Mr Shajahan, SI, said “Rahaan reached our station with the lottery ticket on Sunday and he did not want to go out of the station until it was ensured that the ticket was safe.
Now that we have safely handed over the ticket to the SBI, he is relaxed though he expressed confusion over the bank’s authenticity,” he added. It is also said that his family in West Bengal is afraid about his safety in Kerala after winning the lottery.
