District Congress Committeeunhappy over Siddique
ALAPPUZHA: The inclusion of actor Siddique in the KPCC candidates’ list for Aroor has evoked protest from the DCC here. DCC president A.A. Shukur, who contested unsuccessfully from Aroor last time, said that the name of Siddique was not in the list of the district committee. “We hope the state committee will respect the workers’ feelings,” he said.
During the last one week, anti- Suddique posters had appeared in various parts of Aroor constituency. The posters printed in the name of ‘Pourasamithy’ (citizen forum) said, “film stars should be let to pursue their own business... Aroor needs no outsiders... Siddique, go back ...”
Mr Shukur said that they were investigating the matter. Aroor has returned JSS supremo K.R. Gouriamma to the Assembly nine times (twice as JSS candidate of UDF while seven-time as that of CPM). For the last couple of years, the CPM has won from there consecutively.
In 2006, Mr A.M. Ariff of CPM, the sitting MLA of Aroor, wrested the seat from K.R. Gouriamma with a margin of 4,753 votes. Last time Mr Ariff defeated Mr . Shukur with a thumping margin of 16,852 votes.
The posters have appeared in areas like Chentharoor, Kuthiyathodu and Pallipuram. Huge posters were also pasted on the compound wall of KPCC general secretary Abdul Gafur Haji in Thuravoor.
