Foods to be certified after ensuring their quality.

Kochi: The Kerala Bakers Association on Tuesday launched a programme ‘Bake In Kerala’ under which traditional products like plum cakes will be certified after ensuring their quality, enabling their better marketability.

“The entrepreneurs should have mandatory licence and the certification panel will inspect manufacturing units or kitchens. The products should not contain any addictives or colour flavours other than allotted under the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India). A ‘Bake in Kerala’ logo will be displayed to the products meeting the standards,” said Mr P.M. Sankaran, president, Kerala Bakers Association.

A total of 15 items will be initially included under the programme – bread, bun, rusk, cup cake, plum cake, tea cake, mixture, bakery biscuit, halwa, chips, ‘vatteppam,’ ‘unniappom, ’ ‘achappom,’ ‘kuzhalappam’ and ‘chikki’.

A helpline will be introduced soon through which consumers can convey their reactions or complaints regarding ‘Bake in Kerala’ products. They can also write to mail@bakekerala.com.
