Bengaluru: PWD skips potholes, asphalts good roads

Kommaghatta Road, section of Mysuru Road towards Chandrappa Circle have been relaid at Rs 1.4 crore.

Bengaluru: Adugodi Main Road, K.G Road, Banashankari Main Road… the list of bad roads in the city is endless, but the authorities seems blind to them.

Instead the Public Works Department (PWD) has relaid roads which needed no repairs. Both the Kommaghatta Road section near Taverekere and a section of the Mysuru Road towards Chandrappa Circle have been relaid at a cost of Rs 1.4 crore as part “of routine maintenance.”

The PWD roped in Nirman Constructions to do the job despite public protests.
“There are many other roads that need to be asphalted in the same locality But they have been ignored. Despite our requests , the officials have re-laid roads that don’t need attention,”complains a civic activist from the area, Ramesh.

The work on relaying both road stretches began about 10 days ago and was completed on Saturday amidst protests by local residents, according to him. “The officials are rude and negligent.

They are not interested in the welfare of people , but only in kickbacks. When our protests against the road works intensified, they threatened us and said they did not have to answer to us,” he protested.

The people have now registered a complaint against the PWD contractor with the Zilla Panchayat. While the PWD plays its own games, the BBMP too continues to neglect the pothole- filled Residency Road flyover, Richmond Circle, and roads in Koramangala Eighth Block and Varthur despite its many promises to repair them.
