Suryalanka beach to have watchtowers like Vizag

A foundation stone was laid on Wednesday for construction of watchtowers along Suryalanka beach

VIJAYAWADA: Former deputy speaker and Bapatla MLA Kona Raghupathi and district superintendent of police Vakul Jindal on Wednesday laid a foundation stone for construction of watchtowers along Suryalanka beach for protection of people, particularly tourists.

Speaking on the occasion, Raghupathi appreciated the SP for agreeing to increase safety standards for visitors at Suryalanka beach in Bapatla. Further, GSR Builders Association president Gunreddy Siva, Bapatla Rice Millers’ Association and Golden Sands Resorts have come forward to build the watchtowers, replacing the previous one that is in a dilapidated state.

The MLA observed that increased safety will attract more visitors, including from Hyderabad and other areas to Suryalanka beach. This way, the economy in the surrounding areas will also improve.

SP Vakul Jindal said the watchtower is being modelled after the one at RK beach in Visakhapatnam. He said three watchtowers will be coming up along the beach.

Bapatla District Rice Millers Association president B.V. Ratna Gupta, additional SP P. Mahesh, Bapatla SDPO A. Srinivasa Rao, district S.B. inspector A. Srinivas, Bapatla Rural inspector G. Venugopal Reddy, Bapatla Town inspector P. Krishnaiah, Bapatla Rural, Karlapalem and Chandolu police stations’ sub-inspectors and locals participated in the function organised on the occasion.
