Advocate attempts suicide demanding special status for Andhra Pradesh

Nandyal DSP Gopala Krishna said that the victim had also written a letter addressed to the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi regarding this.

KURNOOL: An advocate attempted suicide by consuming poison on the court premises demanding Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh on Friday in Nandyal. He first took a video-selfie with his mobile phone and recorded his lament and then consumed poison, sources said. He sent the video clipping to his friends through WhatsApp. Within minutes the video went viral. The advocate collapsed on the floor raising slogans like “We want Special Category Status”. Some of his colleagues who were watching his antics gathered immediately around him and shifted him to government hospital.

Nandyal DSP Gopala Krishna said that an advocate named Uppari Anil Kumar, aged about 35 years, and a resident of Nandyal town, had attempted suicide by consuming poison around 12.30 pm on Friday, seeking SCS.

He said that the victim had also written a letter addressed to the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi regarding this. In the letter, the advocate had stated that the PM had failed to fulfil his promises especially Special Category Status to AP. He also wrote about how the PM had promised to give SCS for ten years, but had not even attributed the status for five years. He accused the PM of cheating Telugu people

Mr Anil Kumar had been very active in the past, participating in protests demanding Special Category Status and Samaikyandhra. Several political leaders including those from TDP, YSRCP, CPM, CPI and others visited the hospital where the victim was undergoing medical treatment and inquired about his health. His is stable and out of danger, confirmed DSP Mr Gopala Krishna.
