Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday sought to know the stand of the State government with regard to suicides of inmates at various prisons in the state.
Earlier the state government informed the High Court that compensation remains unpaid for 47 of the 48 unnatural deaths of prisoners between Jan 2012 and Oct 2017. It further said that of the total number of deaths, at least 31 were due to suicide.
Following which the court observed saying that the government has to take a decision on whether compensation can be paid in case of unnatural deaths by way of suicide. The court has asked the state government to provide details in which cases compensation can be paid and adjourned the suo-motu matter.
Indoor stadium
The High Court has stayed proceedings of the June 2017 tender notice with regard to construction of an indoor stadium at 6th cross, Indiranagar 1st stage.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Indiranagar 1st stage league residents welfare association. According to the petitioners the site on which the tender has been invited to construct a stadium is an open space used by elders and children for their recreational activities.
