Telangana: PJTSAU to develop Gyan Kisan app
Hyderabad: The Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) to develop a Gyan Kisan app in collaboration with the Western Sydney University (WSU), Australia and Riverbridge Ventures, India with the aim to empower and uplift livelihoods of farmers in Telangana state by providing agricultural knowledge and market coordination.
A meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor Dr V. Praveen Rao at the administrative building of the university, on Thursday.
Prof Athula Ginige, Dr S.K. Hooda, the representatives of the Western Sydney University, took part in the meeting through video call from Sydney. Officers of the PJTSAU, representatives from Riverbridge Ventures, India also participated in the meeting.
During the meeting, they also discussed to assist the team of Riverbridge Ventures to obtain scientific knowledge relevant to locally-grown crops, their varieties and associate best practices to be converted into actionable information and deliver them to farmers through mobile phones using the proposed app. Dr Rao said that the newly-developed app would be helpful for a large section of farmers who are cultivating five major crops in the state.
The team will organise workshops with the policy makers, krishi vignana kendras, district agricultural advisory and transfer of technology centers’ coordinators, frontline agricultural extension officers of agriculture department and NGO’s who are working on farmers issues to explore ways agriculture extension services can be transformed.
