Hyderabad: Pathetic road and sewerage issue haunts residents of Premnagar, Hafeezpet. Despite its proximity to the IT hub, the area has sewerage flowing on the road.
Mr Syed Iftekar, president of Premnagar A&B Colony Welfare Association, said, “The foundation-stone for the project was laid in October 2017. But it did not take off. The sewerage is flowing on the main road and the mosquitoes menace is causing health problems. All our requests are unheard.”
Seriligampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi planned the project with an estimated cost of Rs 49 lakh in the division 20. It is going to be the main sewerage line in Premnagar A block from Bismillah Chicken to railway track and Hafeezpet main road along the track up to culvert of ward no.104, Kondapur.
A GHMC official said, “We are aware of the issue. The delay is due to the contractor not taking up the work over the GST. We decided to re-tender the work, keeping the GST component. We will be floating the tenders.”
On the other hand, locals complained that despite allocations for laying CC roads, there has been no headway since four years. With an estimated cost of Rs19.8 lakh a CC road was sanctioned on February 5, for laying the main road from Hafeezpet bridge, passing through Premnagar A and B blocks.
However, members of the welfare association noted, “This has been happening since a long time. We have been requesting for laying a CC road since three years. They say that allocations are done and works will begin. But nothing has materialised.”
Around 25,000 families reside in this area since three decades. The association has submitted several representations to the local MLA and the zonal commissioner, requesting basic amenities like sanitation and roads.
Meanwhile, a GHMC official said, “We were awaiting sanctions from the government to lay the road. Now that it is approved, we will float the tenders.”
