Chennai: Binu's ex-partner tipped off cops on birthday bash

The 45-year-old Binu of Choolaimedu had retired for a short while in his native state Kerala after a health complication.

Chennai: Even as city police formed special teams to nab the gangster Binu and several of his accomplices, it has now been established that Binu’s former accomplice, Radhakrishnan, another gangster, had tipped off the cops about the birthday bash.

The 45-year-old Binu of Choolaimedu had retired for a short while in his native state Kerala after a health complication.

In the meantime, his former accomplice, Radhakrishnan collaborated with another wanted gangster, CD Mani of Teynampet and continued operations in the city.

Mani was involved in various real estate deals in the city and attempts were also made on his life in the past two years, police said. Meanwhile, Binu wanted to get into the picture again and to announce his arrival, he organised the grand birthday celebrations in a farmhouse along the Outer Ring road.

Police sources said that it was Radhakrishnan who tipped off the cops about the mob’s gathering to nip Binu’s second stint in the budding stage.

Apart from the rowdies who gathered at the truck shed, police said that a city based advocate and a few other students were also part of the bash.

Police also recovered from the scene few Press ID cards and are interrogating about the same.

Apart from the mobile phones and dangerous weapons seized from the truck shed, police also seized at least 10 tonnes of red sanders smuggled and concealed near lorry shed. “It is not clear if any of those gathered on Tuesday night were involved in red sanders smuggling. We are investigating that too,” a top police officer said.

On Tuesday night, police arrested about 75 rowdies from a farmhouse near Vandalur-Minjur road after the mob gathered for the birthday celebrations of gangster Binu.

In scenes reminiscent of action movies, the gangsters cut cakes with sickles and were reveling when police gatecrashed their party.
