Nehru Zoological Park staff irked over delayed salaries

Salaries of nearly 200 contract staff employed in various departments at the Nehru Zoo Park are not being released on time.

Hyderabad: Salaries of nearly 200 contract staff employed in various departments at the Nehru Zoo Park are not being released on time. “We do not receive our weekly offs and casual leaves are not granted. Health conditions of employees are deteriorating as proper gear is not provided,” said P. Raj Kumar an animal keeper.

The zoological park saw four animals being mated successfully in 2016. The smooth coated otter was mated with its male counterpart from the Surat zoo in Gujarat. A barking deer and gharial leopard cat were also mated with animals brought in from Bilaspur zoo and Ranchi zoo. A pair of Himalayan gorals was received from the Mahendra Choudhary Zoological park, Punjab in an animal exchange programme. The age of the gorals is about three years and it’s the first time they have been introduced to the zoo.

The wall of the white tiger moat which collapsed a few months ago has been repaired. “Two white tiger cubs born in April 2016 were released for the first time with their mother Sameera for public viewing.
