SIAA cancels land deal with SPI cinemas

Veteran actors Prabhu and Sathyaraj were among those present on the occasion.

Chennai: The long-pending dispute regarding SPI Cinemas’ proposed multiplex on Nadigar Sangam land at T. Nagar came to an end on Monday.

Nadigar Sangam aka South Indian Artistes Association cancelled the building deal and settled the advance amount back to SPI Cinemas at T. Nagar subregistrar office by its treasurer Karthi who was accompanied by Poochi Murugan who filed the case for the building and Isari Ganesh who helped arrange the huge amount.

Speaking to mediapersons, the office-bearers of Nadigar Sangam revealed that Rs 2.48 crore was paid to SPI Cinemas and the agreement was cancelled made by their predecessors Sarath Kumar and Radha Ravi. It may be recalled that this was the bone of contention during the elections to the association in which Nasser and Vishal of Pandavar Ani defeated Sarath Kumar’s team.

“From today this place is ours. It is fully owned by Nadigar Sangam. As part of our election manifesto, we will construct a multi-purpose hall. We have invited our Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa madam, who has consented to grace the ‘Laying the foundation’ for the building ceremony,” said Karthi.

Ponvannan said the ‘Gurudatchanai Scheme’ of collecting data of 2,200 Sangam members from among 3,000 is over and soon they would complete it.
