Sharif not in charge of the country's security: U.S. Prof Mark A Bucknam

Nuclear disarmament could not be expected to become a reality anytime soon.

Hyderabad: Prof. Mark A. Bucknam of the National War College in Washington DC said on Monday that nuclear disarmament could not be expected to become a reality anytime soon but countries should start discussing at a global level on putting a stop to more production of nuclear arsenal. He said the notion that the US should curtail its arsenal and countries like India would follow was a fallacy.

“Countries like India have not built nuclear weapons because the US has them, but to protect their sovereignty from their neighbours.” He also said that nuclear weapons played an important role in ensuring that there was no World War III.

The professor added that Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is not really in charge of the country’s security and hinted that it was its intelligence wing, the ISI, and military that were in control. On the use of drones in war he said, “In some cases it has been very effective in removing bad actors but in others it has created animosity towards America.”
