Secretariat works stop in its tracks

The muhurat for setting foundation stone was February 12.

Vijayawada: The state government has postponed the muhurat for setting the foundation stone for the temporary secretariat. Initially, the Capital Regional Development Authority (CRDA) proposed to begin works of the temporary secretariat on February 12. However, the officials have decided to postpone the works suddenly this morning.

They said that the works have been postponed due to price variation between that of the government and the contractor. The government has fixed a price of Rs 3,000 per square feet while the contractors are bidding at Rs 4,000 a square feet. In this backdrop, municipal minister Narayana said the CRDA officials would hold a meeting with the contractors. However, the officials have not held a meeting on this issue so far. Meanwhile, sources said the works were postponed in view of the National Green Tribunal’s stay against the capital works.

But sources said that already National Green Tribunal (NGT) issued stay against capital construction works. That’s why government postponed the works in the name of fixation, one official said. However, CM N Chandrababu Naidu said that the government would announce the temporary works schedule later. The officials are working on the job, he added.
