No proof against Akbar, says Hyderabad police
Hyderabad: The police said there was no evidence against MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi in the assault case which occurred on GHMC polling day. Police arrested another five MIM workers in connection with the case on Monday. “We checked CCTV and found no evidence against Akbaruddin. The video showed that Akbaruddin never went near the BJP candidate who complained of assault,” said DCP Satyanarayana. He said the case against Akbaruddin will be dropped.
The police had earlier registered a case against Akbaruddin Owaisi and his men for allegedly attacking a BJP polling agent named Vijaykumar and Jangamet BJP candidate K. Mahender. In his complaint, the BJP candidate had alleged that MIM men lead by Owaisi stopped and assaulted them. A second case was also registered against Akbaruddin under the SC/ST atrocity laws.
However, the DCP Satyanarayana said that the charges against Akbaruddin will be dropped. MIM sources said that Akbaruddin is now in Saudi Arabia, and that was why he never appeared before the police. Police officials said the case against Congress leaders also might be scrapped due to lack of evidence.
