Fewer new COVID cases found in Telangana as testing numbers fall

Low-testing during the weekends has been a regular phenomenon in the state

Hyderabad: Covid cases fell by almost a thousand in Telangana on Sunday, basically because of a steep fall in the number of tests done during the day. Low-testing during the weekends has been a regular phenomenon in the state even since the advent of the Covid pandemic and this Sunday was no different.

Compared to Saturday’s 73,156 test, on Sunday, Telangana logged a mere 48,583 tests out of which, the health department said it was awaiting results for 13,162 tests.

Sunday’s Covid tally in the state was 1,673, down from 2,606 on Saturday. This fall was reflected in almost all districts, including Hyderabad and the rest of the GHMC area. Against the 1,583 cases on Saturday, the health department said the GHMC limits reported 1,165 cases. Cases in Medchal-Malkajgiri district fell to 149 from 292, while in Ranga Reddy district it was 123 against Saturday’s 214. Only Narayanpet and Nirmal districts reported a rise in cases on Sunday, in single digits.

There was one death from Covid on Sunday taking the state’s overall toll to 4,042.

The department said there were 13,522 active Covid cases on Sunday of which 1,435 were in various hospitals.
