Andhra Pradesh sees huge surge in COVID cases, 2 deaths

Double-digit new Covid infections were reported in seven districts and the rest of the six districts registered triple-digit new infections

VIJAYAWADA: A huge increase was registered in the Covid19 infections in AP on the daily chart released on Sunday. As many as 1,257 new infections were reported in 13 districts, of which the highest 257 infections were registered in Chittoor district.

This is after the new infections largely dropped to below 100 level in the past few weeks. In recent days, there has been a steady increase. This apart, two Covid related deaths were reported in Guntur and Visakhapatnam districts, increasing the cumulative Corona deaths to 14,505 in 13 districts. There, however, was no Corona death in the rest of 11 districts of the state.

As many as 38,479 samples were tested for Covid19. Double-digit new Covid infections were reported in seven districts and the rest of the six districts registered triple-digit new infections.

AP has tested a total of 3,16,05,951 Covid19 samples to date and 140 patients recovered in the past 24 hours. The cumulative C-positive cases were 20,81,859, in which 20,62,580 patients recovered and there existed 4774 active cases.

The single-day least -- of 20 new Covid infections – was registered in Kadapa district followed by 25 infections in West Godavari, 29 in Kurnool, 40 in Prakasam, 55 in Srikakulam, 83 in Vizianagaram and 93 in East Godavari district.

The single-day highest of 254 new infections were reported from Chittoor district followed by 196 in Visakhapatnam, 138 in Anantapur, 117 in Krishna, 104 in Guntur and 103 in Nellore district.

The East Godavari district was on top in cumulative Corona cases with a total of 2,95,485 infections, Chittoor in the second place with a cumulative 2,49,662 cases and West Godavari in the third place with 1,80,291 cases.
