Police thwart NSUI agitation against ABVP, detain students

However, Kumar, who was also arrested, said the police is rarely giving permissions for protests.

Hyderabad: Around 100 members of National Students Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday took out a rally from JNTU Hyderabad to Nizampet X Roads for their Union leaders, who were injured in a clash with Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members in Ahmedabad during a protest against violence in JNU campus a couple of days ago.

Ajay Kumar, NSUI state secretary, said, “Senior members of our organisation were injured after ABVP attacked them in Ahmedabad. We condemn these attacks.”

The protest in the city on Wednesday was not without incidents. KPHB Colony police made preventive arrests of three senior members as they did not have permissions for the protest.

S. Laxmi Narayana, SHO said, “They did not have permission. We detained them for some time and released them.”

However, Kumar, who was also arrested, said the police is rarely giving permissions for protests. “For many weeks, we have been trying to get permissions but we are always denied. For today’s protest, we didn’t even bother since we knew we would not get one. In any case, I don’t know why they can’t let us protest. We didn’t bother anyone,” the student leader further said.
