EFLU, UOH, TISS students support strike

Some of the participants, however, were confused about what the protest was for.

Hyderabad: Many students from the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), and University of Hyderabad (UoH) turned up at Dharna Chowk to express solidarity with the members of workers’ unions holding a protest there.

The trade unions were protesting as part of the nationwide general strike against labour law reforms proposed by the Central government.

Some of the participants, however, were confused about what the protest was for. They believed there would also be discussions about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Virendra Singh and Samiya, both IT professionals, had worked the night shift and come to the protest after leaving their office. Singh said he hoped there would CAA-related protests. When he saw none happening, he marshalled others like him who came there for the same reason for an impromptu protest. Many students joined him and held up placards criticising the BJP-led government for passing the controversial law.
