Rudresh case: Karnataka HC rejects accused plea

Rudresh was murdered in broad daylight by motorbike-borne men at Kamaraja Road in Shivajinagar in October 2016.

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court has dismissed the plea of the accused in the RSS activist Rudresh murder case, wherein they had challenged the special court's order allowing the re-examination of witnesses in the case.

The court in its order has justified the orders of the lower court citing that it is just and proper to reexamine witness on legal and technical grounds.

Rudresh was murdered in broad daylight by motorbike-borne men at Kamaraja Road in Shivajinagar in October 2016. Later, NIA took over the probe, arresting Sheriff and four others for their alleged involvement in the murder. During the trial, the NIA had orally submitted that it couldn't present before the court on time, the evidences such as the weapon and the vehicle used for committing the crime. The special court had allowed its submission, but objections were raised citing that witnesses cannot be re examined. The special court had rejected the objections, which was eventually questioned before the HC.

Vokkaligara Sangha poll
The HC has directed the state government to appoint a high-ranked officer to supervise the polls to Rajya Vokkaligara Sangha scheduled to be conducted by its administrator. The court passed the direction while dismissing the petitions challenging the appointment of administrator to the Sangha by the state government.
