Don't worry! KC Venugopal dismisses JD(S)-Congress rift
Bengaluru: Brushing aside rising differences within the ruling JD(S)-Congress alliance in the state, Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal said on Tuesday that there was no threat to the coalition government while emphasising that both parties would fight the Lok Sabha polls together.
In the same breath, he added that the Congress and JD(S) would sort out all issues "cordially" including the seat sharing for the Lok Sabha elections.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr Venugopal said that from day one there is speculation that this government will fall with claims by various quarters that 17 MLAs were taken to Mumbai or other places, but nothing has happened so far. "These kind of reports are doing the rounds and there is nothing new in it. Nothing has happened to this government so far, we have completed 6 months successfully?," he argued.
He, however, conceded that there are issues which can be sorted out by discussing them. "Hence, at least now, media should stop speculating," he quipped.
Pointing out that there can be differences within the BJP too which is a single party, Mr Venugopal wondered how everything can be smooth in a coalition of the Congress and JD(S), which had fought each other for many years. When asked about the JD(S) demand for 12 out of the 28 Lok Sabha seats, he cryptically said seat sharing discussions haven't started yet. He also said that at the office bearers meeting, it was decided to strengthen the organisation at the grassroot level. "A people contact programme will be held from January 26 to February 15 and each and every household will be informed about the failures of the BJP government,” he said.
