Petrol, liquor fuel Telangana sales tax
Hyderabad: The Telangana state government has achieved higher sales tax growth rate of 19 per cent over last year on the back of increased sales of liquor and petrol, overcoming the challenges posed by demonetisation and GST.
TS earned Rs 29,811 crore through ST from April to December 2017 against Rs 24,977 crore during the same period in 2016. The value-added-tax collected on liquor and petrol played a major role in the state’s tax growth. It contributed Rs 19,404 crore out of total tax collection of Rs 29,811.30 crore.
SGST witnessed a downward trend, raising concerns and questions over zero business and tax evasion in the state.
The state has earned Rs 3,969.93 crore through SGST. However, it fell from Rs 829.49 crore in August to Rs 807.82 crore in September. It rose to Rs 850.66 crore in October before falling to Rs 746.09 crore in November and Rs 735.64 crore in December.
IGST, which witnessed steep increase, compensated for the SGST loss.
The state earned Rs 418.55 crore through IGST in August which increased to Rs 669.35 crore in September, Rs 784.39 crore in October, Rs 798.57 crore in November and Rs 768.02 crore in December.
