Karnataka: Vinayaka Education Society completes 54 years
Bengaluru: Vinayaka Education Society (VES), Cubbon Park, which was formed to deal with edcucational problems faced by the children hailing from poor families and residing in the area, is celebrating its 54th year.
The society was started in 1963 and it included social leaders Y.V. Thimmayya, Karegundi K.H. Timmaiah, T, Mallanna, Kalappa, Hanumantha Rao, K.C. Narasimhaiah, B.G. Gangadharappa, B.G. Veeranna, Gante Chikkashankarappa, D. Arasappa, T. Mudlayya, Y.V. Dasappa and others.
As there was no English medium school in the area, they set up one with just 198 students and initially it operated from four different places in rented buildings.
After few years land was bought for the school building with the help of Textile Co Operative Bank Ltd, Silk Handloom Weavers Co Operative Society, Mysuru Silk Power-loom Clothe Manufacturers Co Operative Society, Shri Oni Anjaneya Trust, Executive Committee members of Devanga Sangha, Gante Shankarappa (Shankar Lawn), VP Ramaiah, B Chunchannanavar, D Arasappa and others.
Currently the society operates 21 English medium and three Kannada medium schools. These schools provide mid-day meals by Adamya Chethana Foundation and free text books and uniforms for poor students. They have secure campuses with CCTV coverage and they also provide audio visual education using 16 mm projectors.
Apart from academics the school also lays emphasis on sports activities with facilities for basket ball, volley ball, tennis, badminton, kho kho and throw ball. The students have excelled in various sports and cultural activities oganised by DPI and other organisations.
