Jana Sena volunteers to work on Uddanam issue
Visakhapatnam: The image of actor and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is of one who just comes, listens and packs up from the scene of public action, just as he does at shooting locations. This works to his disadvantage as a politician.
To change this perception, wherever Pawan goes to address local issues these days, his Jana Sena volunteers are jumping in and doing follow-up action.
After Pawan Kalyan’s visit to Srikakulam to raise the issue of kidney disease spread in Uddanam in Srikakulam district, Jana Sena volunteers are busy trying to enlist the help of voluntary organisations and groups that will work on finding the root cause of the kidney-related deaths and find solutions.
Pawan Kalyan had on Tuesday set a deadline of 48 hours to the state government and health minister Kamineni Srinivas Rao to roll out an action plan on safeguarding the health of the local people and on helping the family members of those who lost lives due to the kidney diseases in Uddanam. He also threatened to launch a people’s movement if the state government fails to come up with a road map on helping the victims.
Some 24 hours after Pawan Kalyan issued the ultimatum and set a deadline to the state government, health minister Kamineni Srinivas Rao and labour minister K. Atchannaidu rushed to Srikakulam and reviewed the situation in Uddanam.
“There is a misconception that there are no follow-up action on the issues raised by our chief. It’s good that the government responded to Pawan’s visit to Uddanam. But that is not enough. The root cause of the disease spread has to be identified and solutions found. We shall do our best too. It’s not that we left the issue where it was after Pawan’s visit. We will work tirelessly until a solution is found. It’s unfortunate that these deaths were noticed in the 1990s and until now no solution was found,” said Jana Sena Vizag representative J. Satish Kumar.
Jana Sena north Andhra volunteers are preparing a charter of demands related to the three districts on issues that remained unsolved over a long time, to bring them to the notice of Pawan Kalyan so that he could in due course take them up and get the government to find solutions.
