Walayar accused thrashed by mob

Police sources said Madhu had been showing great deal of arrogance while interacting with public after he was acquitted in the case in October.

Palakkad: ‘Kutti’ Madhu, the acquitted fourth accused in the rape and suicide case of two minor sisters at Attappallam in Walayar in Palakkad district was thrashed by a mob here on Saturday noon.

Madhu suffered injuries on his lip. There are a few abrasions on his body, Walayar police said.

Police sources said Madhu had been showing great deal of arrogance while interacting with public after he was acquitted in the case in October.

A group of more than 10 men made fun of him as he was passing through Attappallam junction with a friend on a bike on Saturday at around 12 pm.

There were references to the Telangana encounter killings of the four men involved in the rape and murder of a veterinary doctor.

Soon, a verbal duel broke out and the men started thrashing Madhu while the friend who was accompanying him ran to safety.

On being informed, Walayar police reached the spot and took Madhu who was lying on the ground by the road, to the district hospital in Palakkad town.

“Cases have been registered against 10 persons over the incident,” Walayar sub-inspector Manoj K. Gopi said.

Three persons Manu, Vinu and Krishnaprasad of Attappallam who were arrested and produced before the magistrate on Saturday evening were granted bail, Walayar Police said.
