Bhopal: A minor girl in a Madhya Pradesh town committed suicide by jumping into a water body in her locality after she was allegedly molested by a group of youths, police said on Saturday.
The tragic incident took place in district headquarters of Damoh late on Thursday, police said.
“The girl had constantly been subjected to sexual harassment by some men in her locality. On the fateful day, the accused threatened to abduct her. This had driven her to commit suicide by jumping into a lake in the locality,” police quoting the victim’s parents said.
The kin of the victim blamed alleged police inaction in the matter for the tragic incident.
“The victim’s family had earlier reported the matter to police for action. But, the police failed to take action against the accused, leading to the tragedy,” they alleged.
Damoh district superintendent of police Vivek Singh, however, told the mediapersons that police could have saved her if the matter was reported to police earlier.
