BMRCL: Hebbal to get multi-mode station

BMRCL expects 2.5L passengers per day on the Airport line, once completed.

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has created a new multimode hub along its Airport line. Though the project has been delayed, the corporation seems to be on track and expects a ridership of 2.5 lakh passengers per day once it is completed.

The BMRCL is also thinking of setting up two stations along the airport line in two different corridors: one catering to commuters travelling towards South Bengaluru and another towards the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA).

The stations identified are Hebbal North (Central Silk Board-KR Puram-ORR-Kempegowda International Airport) and Hebbal West (JP Nagar-Hebbal).

Sources said that BMRCL will soon float tenders for the Outer Ring Road-KIA corridors in Phase 2, while the ORR-West (JP Nagar-Hebbal) will be taken up only in Phase 3 as the project is still at the planning stage.

“This will be the multi-modal station at Hebbal on Airport line Metro. But the exact location of Hebbal West has not yet been decided. A public sector engineering consultancy company is now conducting a study for augmenting the capacity of Hebbal Junction.

At this stage, our corporation can only say that Hebbal West Metro station will be closer to Hebbal railway station. The distance between North and West stations will be around 500 metres,” said a BMRCL official.

The BMRCL has also confirmed that for pedestrian movement across Hebbal junction, a sky-walk will be built connecting North and West stations.

While the corporation has set a deadline of 2024 for the completion of Metro Phase 2, it has not yet announced the deadline for Phase 3.
