Thiruvananthapuram: The examination pattern for ICSE class 10 and ISC class 12 has been changed by introducing compartmental examination at both levels.
Candidates of Class 10 and Class 12 who have failed the examinations will have another chance from 2019.
The time table for the examinations for 2019 has been uploaded on their website.
Gerry Arathoon, CEO, Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, said that candidates who fail will be allowed to sit for the compartmental examinations.
However, candidates will be eligible only to appear for one compartmental exam a year. This will be held in July every year and the result will be declared in August.
This is part of the efforts to upgrade the council systems and procedure to make them more student and school-friendly, said Arathoon.
The council has also announced to change the examination pattern for both class 10 and class 12 from 2021 onwards with the introduction of new subjects. For ICSE, group I history, civics and geography (Thailand) will be compulsory for candidates with Thai nationality while others can also opt for the same.
For ISC students, subjects of hospitality management and legal studies will be introduced.
The syllabus for English literature, popularly called as English paper – II, at both ICSE and ISC levels will be changed. Shakespearean play, prose (short stories) and poetry will be made compulsory for all students. From 2019 onwards, training programmes will be mandatory for the teachers at elementary ISC and ICSE levels.
The ICSE will also make the examination-related process, including admission cards, customised timetables etc online. In addition to the subject-wise marks, paper-wise marks will also be provided for English, history, civics and geography and science on the statement of marks from 2019....
