Drones keep watch over Maoist-hit areas
MANCHERIAL: The police for the first time used drone cameras in the Maoist affected areas of Old Adilabad and Karimnagar districts on Friday during the elections.
Police kept a close watch via drone cameras on persons moving along the river Pranahitha. Drone surveillance was done at the existing 16 ferry points along the sub-river Pranahitha in Chennur assembly constituency. Checks were increased at the ferry points of Venchepalli, Arjugutta, Kallampalli and Sheersha along the Pranahitha that are used to cross from Maharashtra in country made boats.
Police conducted combing operations with the help of Greyhounds, cat parties in the Maoist affected areas along the Pranahitha.
Shadow, QRT, taskforce, counter action teams were formed to counter Maoist attack during polling. There are 698 polling centres in the Bellampalli, Mancherial and Chennur Assembly constituencies. Among them 47 polling centres were identified as being in Maoist affected area. Villages in Neelvai, Chennur and Kotapalli come under Maoist affected areas.
Ramagundam police commissioner V. Satyanarayana said that they were using drone cameras for the first time for surveillance on Maoist movements along the Pranahitha in the polls in Mancherial district.
