Environmental Committee member: Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan asks P V Anwar to explain

V.M. Sudheeran questioned MLA's continuance in environment panel.

Thiruvananthapuram: Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan on Thursday has sought Nilambur MLA P V Anwar's remarks on the demand for his ouster from the assembly committee on environment. According to official sources at the Speaker's office, the Speaker sought Mr. Anwar's remarks as former KPCC president V M Sudheeran raised a demand citing allegations against Mr. Anwar’s water theme park.

“It is a routine procedure to seek the opinion of the MLA concerned in case of complaint received by the speaker against an MLA. Any further actions, if required, would be taken after getting the MLA’s opinion,” the source said. Mr. Anwar’s water theme park at Kakkadampoyil near Nilambur has been caught up in a series of allegations including violation of environment norms. Citing this, Mr. Sudheeran sought Mr. Anwar’s removal from the assembly committee on environment which is chaired by CPI MLA Mullakkara Ratnakaran.

In a letter to the Speaker on Wednesday, Mr. Sudheeran said that there was impropriety in Anwar continuing in the environment panel and it would defame the Legislative Assembly. If Mr. Anwar remained as a member of the committee, he could even take part in sittings of the committee on matters pertaining to the allegations against his resort. The other members of the committee are Anil Akkara, K. Babu, O. R. Kelu, P. T. A. Rahim, K. M. Shaji, K. V. Vijayadas and M. Vincent. The UDF members in the committee may also raise demand for the ouster of Anwar from the committee, sources said.
