CM Palaniswami orders Rs 10 lakh solatium each to fishermen families
Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has ordered a solatium of Rs10 lakh each including an insurance sum of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of fishermen who died due to cyclone Ockhi. The CM who reviewed the pace of restoration in the Ockhi-hit Kanyakumari district along with fisheries minister D. Jayakumar and senior officials here on Thursday announced a slew of relief sum to the affected fishers.
He said taking into account the loss of livelihood in December due to the intensity of the cyclone, the government would provide a solatium of Rs 2,500 to all fishing families in Kanyakumari district. Also, he announced a special grant of Rs 5,000 as livelihood assistance to each of the fishing families whose men went missing. About Rs 5 lakh would be provided as financial assistance to help the fishermen who became disabled due to the cyclone to take up alternative livelihood and Rs 50,000 would be extended by his government towards hospitalisation of the injured, he announced.
CM informed that the enumeration on the missing men is being carried out village-wise. The government has formed an officials committee under the Commissioner of Revenue Administration to conduct a detailed enquiry on the missing men and to submit a report to the government. Based on the report, it would be construed that those missing have perished and appropriate compensation would be awarded to the affected kin.
