Hyderabad: In an unusual development the AP government has decided to file contempt petition in the Supreme Court against the central government regarding its orders o sharing of assets of 9th and 10th Scheduled institutions. Interestingly, the Telugu Desam party which is in power in AP is also a partner in the NDA coalition government at the Centre headed by the BJP. On the petition filed by the Telangana government AP High court issued orders that the assets of the higher education council should be shared on location basis. Challenging the High Court orders the AP government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court.
Directing the central government to constitute a committee on bifurcation of assets between AP and Telangana states the Supreme Court said that the sharing of assets should not be done on location basis and should be done on population basis. Accordingly the central government has constituted a committee to look into this issue. But, meanwhile union home department has issued orders on sharing of assets between the two states.
The central government in its order said that the movable and immovable assets should be bifurcated on location basis, funds of these institutions should be bifurcated between the two states on population basis and the employees should be bifurcated between the two states on the basis of where they are working at present they belong to that state. AP government has opposed the home ministry orders and filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking clarification on location issue.
